Named in the spirit of Begums (which itself means ‘a woman of rank’), this bandana’s design is both a visual libation to the ancestors of Begums founder and a grafting of her son’s heritage into her brand. Invoking the symbol of “women carrying the basket of fruit” is Begums’ way of showing reverance to the community members who carried us to this point in time and to those who will carry the future.

The Outpost Collection (designed in collaboration with Aleesha Nandra) pays homage to the diverse Caribbean community of East Flatbush, bringing a slice of “back home” to the brave diaspora who came to the U.S. to start a new life.
